1954年に誕生した、映画『ゴジラ』は、巨大な文化的アイコンとして世界中の人々に愛されてきた。2016年には『シン・ゴジラ』（庵野秀明総監督）が公開。徹底的なリアリティを追求した描写は観客の心をつかみ、興行収入82.5億円を記録する大ヒットとなった。そして2017年、“ゴジラ”は誰も予想しなかった新たな“進化”を果たす。それがアニメーション映画『GODZILLA』である。
本作が描くのは、これまでのどんな“ゴジラ”とも一線を画すシビアでハードな未来世界。二万年もの間、地球に君臨し続けてきた“ゴジラ”とそれに対峙する人類の因縁の物語だ。
監督には、劇場版『名探偵コナン から紅の恋歌（ラブレター）』を手掛け、シリーズ歴代最高の興行収入を記録した静野孔文が参加。コンビを組むもう一人の監督が瀬下寛之。CG領域の第一線で培われたその手腕は監督作である『シドニアの騎士 第九惑星戦役』、『BLAME!』で立証済みと言える。ストーリー原案・脚本は『魔法少女まどか☆マギカ』や『PSYCHO-PASS サイコパス』などで知られる虚淵玄（ニトロプラス）。突破力抜群のアイデアと先を読ませない緻密な構成力は多くのファンの心を捉えている。劇中音楽は、昨年放送のNHK大河ドラマ「真田丸」を印象的な劇伴で盛り上げた服部隆之が担当。主題歌は、第8回「東宝シンデレラ」オーディションにて、初代「アーティスト賞」を受賞し、今回の映画主題歌でメジャーデビューが決定した超大型新人XAIに決定。そのXAIを自身初の女性ソロシンガープロデュースとして手掛けるのは、『ダークナイト』（2008年/クリストファー・ノーラン監督）にも楽曲を提供するなど世界的人気を誇るBOOM BOOM SATELLITES中野雅之。
そして制作は『シドニアの騎士』を始め、『スター・ウォーズ：クローン・ウォーズ』等で米国テレビ業界のアカデミー賞として知られるエミー賞最優秀賞（デイタイム・エミー賞 アニメーション番組特別部門最優秀賞）を通算5度受賞するなど数々の実績を持つ国内最高峰の3DCGスタジオ、ポリゴン・ピクチュアズ。

The 2016 release of “SHIN GODZILLA”, directed by Hideaki Anno, reinvigorated the franchise, bringing a completely novel and realistic depiction of the iconic monster story, which earned 82.5 million dollars at the box-office and captured the imagination of new and old fans alike. Now in 2017, “Godzilla” continues to surprise everyone along a new evolutionary path as a feature-length animated film.
“GODZILLA” the animated movie takes the franchise into the uncharted territory of a future world in which Godzilla has dominated the earth for the past 20,000 years with mankind as diaspora, culminating in a fateful final confrontation.
Directing is Kobun Shizuno whose theatrical realize of “Detective Conan: The Darkest Nightmare” last year grossed 63.3 million dollars, the highest attendance ever for that famed franchise. He is joined by another proven talent on the cutting edge of computer graphics, Hiroyuki Seshita, as director and executive director of recently-topical anime including “Knights of Sidonia” ('14) and “Ajin” ('16) Penning both the story and screenplay is Gen Urobuchi of “PUELLA MAGI MADOKA MAGICA” ('11) and “Psycho-Pass” ('12), a writer known to his large and loyal fan base as a master of meticulous and unpredictable storytelling laced with powerful ideas. Finally, handling the production is 3-consecutive Emmy award winning Japanese 3DCG animation studio, Polygon Pictures, which produced “Knights of Sidonia” and “Star Wars: The Clone Wars” on U.S. television earning Outstanding Special Class Animated Program at the 40th Annual Daytime Emmy Awards.

二十世紀最後の夏。その日人類は、地球という惑星の支配者が自分達だけではないと知った―――。
巨大生物「怪獣」の出現と、その怪獣をも駆逐する究極の存在「ゴジラ」。半世紀にわたる怪獣との戦争の末、人類は敗走を重ね、ついに地球脱出を計画。そして2048年、中央政府管理下の人工知能による選別を受けた人間だけが恒星間移民船・アラトラム号で11.9光年の彼方にある「くじら座タウ星e」を目指し旅立った。しかし、20年かけてたどり着いたタウ星eの地球との環境条件差は、予測値を遥かに上回り、人類が生存可能な環境と呼べるものではなかった。
移民船に乗る一人の青年・ハルオ。4歳の時に目の前でゴジラに両親を殺され、20年の間、地球に戻りゴジラを倒すことだけを考え続けていた。移民の可能性を閉ざされ、生存環境も劣悪となった船内でハルオを中心とした「地球帰還派」は主流となり、危険な長距離亜空間航行を決断し地球を目指す。
だが、帰還した地球は、既に二万年の歳月が経過し、地上はゴジラを頂点とした生態系による未知の世界となっていた。
果たして人類は地球を取り戻せるのか。そして、ハルオの運命は―――。
The final summer of the 20th century… when mankind learns it is no longer the sole ruler of planet Earth.
The planet is beset by the emergence of colossal creatures that roam the earth, and king among them is “Godzilla”. For a half a century, these beasts engage in ferocious battle with each other and mankind. But humans, unable to compete, prepare for exile from their home planet. In the year 2048, a select few humans are chosen by the central government's artificial intelligence infrastructure to set out on an interstellar emigration vessel, the Aratrum, on an 11.9-lightyear journey for the planet Tau-e in the Cetus constellation. But when they arrive after 20 years of space travel, the remnants of mankind find the environmental conditions on Tau-e to be much different than expected, and basically uninhabitable by humans.
On youth on board the emigration vessel, Haruo, had seen his parents killed by Godzilla before his eyes when he was only 4 years old. Ever since, he has thought of nothing but returning to Earth to defeat Godzilla. With the doors to emigration now closed, Haruo and other crew spearhead a “return to Earth” decision despite severely attenuated and hazardous conditions on board for such a long trip back.
Somehow, the Aratrum makes the return journey in one piece, but the home they return to has become an alien planet. 20,000 years have elapsed, and a new ecosystem has emerged withatop the food chain. Can mankind take back its native planet? Will Haruo get his revenge?
